Planning a Wedding in Europe? Here’s Everything You Need to Know (& I’ll Be There in 2027)

There’s a reason so many couples dream about getting married in Europe.

Maybe it's the old stone buildings covered in ivy.

Maybe it's the idea of sharing dinner under string lights in an Italian vineyard.

Maybe it's the way European wedding photos seem to have this romantic feeling that’s hard to put into words.

Whatever it is, I get it.

Every time I photograph a wedding with that cinematic, European-inspired feel, I'm reminded why people fall in love with the idea in the first place.

And for the 2027 European summer season, I'll be there photographing weddings across Europe.

So if you're dreaming about a destination wedding in Italy, France, Greece, Portugal, or beyond, here's everything I'd want you to know.

Top European Wedding Destinations

Italy

Italy is probably what most people picture when they think about a European wedding.

Tuscan villas.

Lake Como views.

The Amalfi Coast.

Ancient streets, incredible food, beautiful architecture, and some of the most romantic light you'll ever see.

If you're dreaming of a wedding that feels cinematic, intimate, and effortlessly beautiful, Italy is hard to beat.

France

France has a completely different kind of romance.

Think countryside estates, lavender fields, historic châteaus, and long outdoor dinners that stretch into the evening.

Whether it's Provence, the French Riviera, or somewhere tucked away in the countryside, France feels timeless.

It's elegant without trying too hard.

Greece

For couples wanting sunshine, ocean views, and a relaxed atmosphere, Greece is incredible.

The whitewashed buildings, crystal-clear water, and golden sunsets make it one of the most beautiful places in Europe to get married.

It feels celebratory.

And completely unforgettable.

Portugal

Portugal has become one of my favourite recommendations for couples wanting something a little different.

Beautiful coastlines.

Historic architecture.

Amazing food and wine.

And often a little more affordable than some of Europe's more famous wedding destinations.

Scotland & The UK

If dramatic landscapes are more your style, Scotland is hard to beat.

Rolling hills.

Ancient castles.

Moody skies.

The UK offers a completely different atmosphere to Southern Europe, but one that's equally beautiful.

Especially for couples who love nature, history, and a slightly more adventurous feel.

Things I'd Recommend Before Booking a European Wedding

Start Planning Earlier Than You Think

The best European wedding venues book quickly.

Particularly in Italy, France, and Greece.

If you've found a venue you love, don't sit on it for too long.

Many couples book 12–24 months in advance for peak summer dates.

Work With Local Experts

Having a wedding planner who understands the destination is one of the best investments you can make.

They'll know the venues, vendors, logistics, and legal requirements, and they'll save you an enormous amount of stress.

Build Extra Time Into Your Travel Plans

One thing many couples underestimate is travel fatigue.

If you're flying from Australia, give yourself a few days to settle in before any major wedding events.

Arriving early allows you to:

  • Adjust to the time difference

  • Finalise any last-minute details

  • Spend quality time with family and friends

  • Actually enjoy the destination you've travelled so far to reach

The last thing you want is to arrive exhausted and head straight into wedding week.

Think Beyond the Wedding Day

One of the best things about a European wedding is that it naturally becomes more than a single-day event.

Many couples plan:

  • Welcome dinners

  • Recovery brunches

  • Group activities

  • Pre-wedding drinks

Not only does this create a more memorable experience for guests, but it also takes pressure off the wedding day itself.

You don't need to fit every conversation and every moment into a single afternoon.

Make the Most of European Evenings

One of the biggest advantages of a European summer wedding is the incredible evening light.

In many destinations, the sun doesn't set until late evening, giving you hours of soft, golden light that photographers dream about.

This means you can enjoy your cocktail hour, spend time with guests, and still sneak away for a short sunset portrait session without feeling rushed.

The result is often some of the most cinematic wedding photos of the entire day.

Why I'm Heading to Europe in 2027

A lot of my work is already inspired by Europe.

The architecture.

The landscapes.

The slower pace.

The cinematic feeling.

It's why venues like Montsalvat have always felt so special to photograph.

They capture a little bit of that old-world magic.

So spending the 2027 summer season photographing weddings throughout Europe feels like a natural next step.

I'll be available across Italy, France, Greece, Portugal, the UK, and other European destinations throughout the season.

Whether you're planning an intimate elopement, a destination wedding with family and friends, or a multi-day celebration, I'd love to hear what you're envisioning.
